Gynaecological Follow-up

Regular follow-up is essential to safeguard your gynaecological health at every stage of life.

The preventive consultation

The annual gynaecological consultation enables early detection of potential abnormalities and a comprehensive review of your intimate health. It is recommended from the start of sexual activity or from the age of 25.

Dr Maazouzi carries out a full clinical examination including breast examination, speculum examination and, where appropriate, a vaginal examination. The consultation covers personal and family history, menstrual cycle, contraception and sexual health.

Smear test & cervical screening

The cervical smear test (or HPV test) is the gold standard for cervical cancer screening. The recommended schedule is as follows:

  • Ages 25 to 29 — cervical cytology every 3 years (after two normal smears 1 year apart)
  • Ages 30 to 65 — HPV test every 5 years

In the event of an abnormal result, Dr Maazouzi offers colposcopy with directed biopsy where necessary.

Good to know: the HPV vaccine is recommended for both girls and boys from the age of 11. It significantly reduces the risk of cervical cancer.

Fertility assessment

If you are experiencing difficulty conceiving, Dr Maazouzi carries out a comprehensive fertility assessment including:

  • Hormonal profile — FSH, LH, oestradiol, AMH, prolactin, TSH
  • Pelvic ultrasound — assessment of ovarian reserve (antral follicle count)
  • Hysterosalpingography — verification of tubal patency
  • Partner's semen analysis — arranged when appropriate

Depending on the results, Dr Maazouzi will guide you towards the most appropriate course of action: ovarian stimulation, surgery, or referral to a fertility centre.

Infection screening

Sexually transmitted infection screening is an integral part of gynaecological follow-up. It is routinely offered when there is a change of partner, unprotected intercourse, or suggestive symptoms.

  • Chlamydia & gonorrhoea — vaginal or urine sample (PCR)
  • Serology — HIV, hepatitis B and C, syphilis
  • HPV — integrated into cervical screening from age 30
  • Genital herpes — clinical and serological diagnosis when necessary

Early screening enables prompt treatment and prevents complications (tubal infertility, ectopic pregnancy).
